Leo Martinez is the founder and principal consultant of Leo Martinez Consulting, a Jacksonville-based firm specializing in training, technical assistance, and project management for community-based organizations and government agencies. With over 13 years of experience, Leo has become a trusted leader in the fields of victim services, cultural responsiveness, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.
Previously, Leo has served as the Senior Manager of Training and Technical Assistance at Esperanza United, where he led national initiatives funded by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He led the work of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence in the Latinx Community. Additional work included: consulting with the Vicarious Trauma Response Initiative, contributing to the Intimate Partner Homicide project focused on Latina victims, and enhancing language access through the Translating justice and the Enhancing Access Peer to Peer project. Leo has also played a pivotal role in the National Resource Center for Reaching Victims, focusing on cultural responsiveness and language access for immigrant and limited English proficient victims.
Leo's consulting expertise has been sought by organizations nationwide, including the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, and the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault. He has served as a faculty member of the Georgia Victim Assistance Academy, providing training on topics such as LGBTQ+ victimization, male victimization, and meaningful collaborations.
A passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ Latinx community, Leo co-founded Latino LinQ, a community-based organization in Atlanta dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ Latinx individuals. He served as the organization's first president and was honored as the Grand Marshal of Atlanta Pride in 2016 for his contributions to LGBTQ+ victim advocacy and community engagement.
Leo holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Human Services from Clayton State University. He continues to be a thought leader in his field, regularly contributing to national conferences and peer learning communities on diversity, inclusion, and advocacy for underserved communities.
